TIL a CRT whine can be fixed with a $2 part after 3 hours of guessing
My old Sony Trinitron started making this high pitched squeal every time I turned it on, and I figured it was just dying. I opened it up, poked around with a plastic stick, and swapped the flyback, the caps, even the power cord, nothing worked. Turned out it was one tiny cracked solder joint on the neck board that took 3 hours to find with a magnifying glass and a soldering iron. Two bucks of solder and it runs dead quiet now. Anyone else chase a noise around a board for hours only to find something that dumb?
