Had to pick between a heat pump and new AC in Austin, I chose wrong maybe
My old AC finally died in June during that 105 degree stretch. The quotes came in at $9,500 for a standard unit and $13,200 for a heat pump with the rebate. I went with the cheaper AC because I panicked about money, but now my electric bill is $210 a month and my neighbor's heat pump is running at $140. The installer did warn me that Austin summers would eat the savings, but I just wanted it fixed fast. Has anyone else swapped later and regretted not doing the heat pump from the start?
