Hot take: a guy at a Denver bike co-op shamed me out of buying new tubes and he was right
I used to just buy a new tube every time I got a flat, which for me was about once a month riding 12 miles a day to work. A volunteer at a co-op on Broadway asked why I was tossing good rubber and showed me the punctures were tiny, patchable in 10 minutes for about 30 cents. I pushed back at first because patching felt cheap, but he said I was basically throwing away a $9 tube to save a quarter hour, and he wasn't wrong. I bought a $6 patch kit and a $4 tire lever and now I fix flats on my kitchen table instead of riding to the shop. Anyone else had a stranger call out a habit that turned out to be wasteful?
