Rant: My 'green' compost bin was just feeding the local raccoon mafia
For a whole year I thought my kitchen scraps were turning into perfect soil, but my neighbor finally told me the truth. He said, 'Chris, that rustling at 2 AM isn't the magic of decomposition, it's a family of raccoons having a buffet.' I'd been diligently separating my waste, only to find the bin tipped over and cleaned out every single morning. Has anyone else had their climate efforts totally hijacked by wildlife, and what did you do about it?

Oh man, I read about using bungee cords to lock those bins down tight.

Remember when those things used to just blow away?

Yeah, bungee cords seemed kinda silly to me at first too. But last winter we had a storm that sent my neighbor's empty bin halfway down the street. Hooked a couple cords on mine after that and it hasn't budged since.
