Just had my Z axis stall mid cut on a 3/4 inch aluminum plate and it cost me a 60 dollar end mill
Honestly I was pushing the feed rate too hard on my little benchtop router and the stepper just lost its place halfway down the profile. Heard that ugly grinding sound from the other side of the shop, hit the estop, and by then the tool was already snapped and half buried in the stock. Anyone got a rule of thumb for feed on aluminum without burning up an end mill every time?
