Warning: My chuck spun loose mid-cut on a Friday rush job in Dayton
I was running a batch of 200 aluminum brackets on the old Haas at the shop in Dayton last Friday, and about 40 parts in I heard a tick that didn't belong. Walked over and saw the chuck had worked loose and the part was sitting crooked in the jaws. I hit feed hold, killed the spindle, and pulled the piece out, and sure enough there were gouge marks across the face where it had shifted. Lost maybe 12 parts before I caught it, which is about $90 in material. Now I torque the jaws with a wrench and do a quick pull test every 25 parts instead of trusting the air gun. What's your go to trick for catching a loose chuck before it wrecks a batch?
