Why does nobody talk about swapping out dial indicators for digital readouts?

I used to squint at tiny dials and hope my math was right when setting tools. Now with a DRO, I get precise numbers in seconds and cut my setup time in half. What outdated tool did you replace that made your day easier?

About your buddy with the calipers, I get the joy of a new tool, but digital calipers have been the standard for a long time now. In my shop, the real game changer was ditching the old height gauge for a digital one with a nice base. No more adding up stack blocks and hoping you read the vernier scale right. It went from a fifteen minute guess to a two minute sure thing.

Ever think his joy is just the nice click of a new tool?

My buddy swapped his old calipers and now he's way too happy about it.

Way too happy about swapping calipers? What, did he throw a party for them? I've seen people get new tools, but this sounds like he found gold. Is he carrying them around to show everyone? It's just a pair of calipers, not a new car. Maybe he really hated those old ones, but still, that's a lot of joy for a basic tool.
