Pro tip: picked Python over JavaScript for my first language and the boring choice saved me
My buddy in Toledo kept pushing me to learn JavaScript so I could make websites right away, but I went with Python after reading that its error messages are easier for beginners to understand. Three months in, I can actually read my own code, which did not happen the one time I tried JavaScript and got buried in brackets and semicolons. Has anyone else started with Python and then switched later, or did you just stick with it?
That line about "I can actually read my own code" really hits home for me. I had the same thing happen when I tried JS first and spent more time hunting missing semicolons than actually learning how to think through a problem. Python letting you just write a thought and run it is huge when you are starting out, because you stay in the flow instead of getting yanked out by punctuation junk. Your buddy means well but "make websites right away" is a trap, you end up copying code you don't really get. Sticking with Python was smart, and honestly the ideas you learn there carry over fine whenever you do pick up JS later. Three months in and reading your own code is a real win, keep at it.
