A simple trick I found for remembering how loops work

Last Tuesday I was stuck on a practice problem about for loops. I kept mixing up where the counter starts and ends. My friend told me to think of it like washing a row of windows, you start at the first one and go until you finish the last. That simple picture made it click for me right away. How do you guys keep track of loop logic when you're starting out?

Update: That $80 'smart' water bottle that tracks your intake is now a dumb paperweight after 4 months.

The app stopped getting updates, the battery won't hold a charge anymore, and I'm back to using a regular bottle I got for free at a bank opening, so has anyone found a tracker that actually lasts more than a year?

Tried to strip my old oak floors with a rented orbital sander last weekend

I thought it would be a straightforward weekend job, but the sander just kept leaving these weird, deep swirl marks all over the place no matter how slow I went. Turns out the rental place gave me the wrong grit sandpaper and I basically etched a pattern into the wood. What's the best way to fix this without having to sand everything down again from scratch?

Hot take: I just threw out $400 worth of expired product I forgot about in my storage closet.

I was doing a big clean out of my treatment room's storage last week, getting ready for a new shipment. I moved a box of masks and serums I bought on a Black Friday deal two years ago, thinking I'd use them eventually. When I checked the dates, almost everything was past its PAO symbol by six months or more. It was a mix of enzyme masks and a vitamin C serum from a brand I don't even carry anymore. I felt so stupid because I kept telling myself I'd get to it, but I was just rotating my main stock. That's $400 down the drain, money I could have used on something current or for a course. It taught me to stop buying in bulk just for a discount unless I know it'll move fast. Has anyone set up a better system to track product dates so this doesn't happen again?

Warning about that cheap seam roller from the big box store

I grabbed one of those off-brand seam rollers for like $12 last month thinking I'd save a few bucks. Figured a roller is a roller, right? Wrong. The handle was plastic and felt cheap, but the real problem was the roller itself. It had zero weight to it, just this hollow, lightweight cylinder. On a job over in the Brookfield area, I was working with a dense berber and this thing did nothing to set the seam adhesive. I must have gone over the same seam ten times, pressing down hard, and it still wasn't bonding right. Ended up having to go back the next day because the seam started to lift. Cost me a full day's pay, about $350, plus gas. What do you guys use for a good, heavy-duty seam roller that actually works?

Finished a 2,000 square foot glue-down job in just two days

It was a big commercial space in Akron with that rigid core vinyl plank. I was sure it would take me at least three full days, but everything just clicked and I got it done ahead of schedule. The client was so happy they gave me a bonus. Anyone else have a project recently that went way smoother than you thought?

Just had a fabric dye disaster with a custom jacket last month

I was working on a denim jacket in my home studio, trying to get this perfect faded indigo gradient. I mixed the dye bath wrong, and the whole piece came out this weird, splotchy purple instead of blue. I was so bummed, thinking I'd ruined 20 hours of work. I ended up salvaging it by overdyeing it black and adding some intentional bleach spray details, which actually looked pretty cool. Warning: My laptop charger fried in a Chiang Mai cafe

I was working at a spot near the Tha Phae Gate when my screen went black and I smelled that awful burning plastic smell. The cafe's outlet had a voltage spike that cooked my charger, so I had to find a repair shop that could get me a new one fast. Anyone know a good place to buy a real charger here, not a cheap copy?
