When I moved to Austin in 2016 my internet bill was $45 flat, now the same speed costs me $89 with junk fees
Back in 2016 I paid $45 a month for 100 Mbps, no modem rental fee, no broadcast surcharge, and the price never moved for three solid years. Fast forward to now and that same speed runs me $89 a month, plus $14 for the modem I used to own, plus a $10 "network access" line that nobody at the call center can explain to me. The guy on the phone told me prices went up because of "infrastructure costs" but my neighborhood has had the same poles and lines since I moved in. Every year they add a new fee and hide it in the fine print, and loyalty means nothing because new customers get the old rate I used to pay. Has anyone actually gotten a rep to drop the modem rental fee by buying their own, and did it mess up your service?
