A retired machinist at my shop in Dayton told me to stop chasing jobs that pay $2 more an hour
I was helping clean out the tool crib at the Dayton shop where I work when a retired machinist who still stops by on Fridays told me he watched three guys leave for $2 more an hour at a plant across town and all three got laid off within 18 months. He said the money looks good until you start over at the bottom somewhere new, and that staying put long enough to learn the machines everyone else avoids is what kept him working through two recessions. How do you all weigh a small pay bump against job security when you have not been at a place very long?
