Noticed a huge difference in my French press coffee after switching my grind size
I used to use a medium grind for about 3 months and got bitter, muddy coffee every time. Switched to a coarse grind last week and now my cups are way cleaner and smoother. Has anyone else had that kind of change from just one adjustment?

Right? That "muddy coffee" thing is a nightmare. I guess my grinder's just blind at this point.

Man, are we really calling muddy coffee a "nightmare" now? It's not ideal but it's just coffee. I've had plenty of cups that came out gritty or overextracted and I just drank them anyway. It's not like we're performing surgery here. People get way too precious about their brewing. A bit of mud never killed anyone. Honestly if your grinder is that bad just get a new one and move on.

Whoa hold up, I gotta push back on that. Going coarse isn't always the magic fix everyone says it is. I tried it for a month and got weak, watery coffee that tasted like nothing. That bitter muddy cup you had? That's probably your water temp being too hot or your brew time being too long, not the grind. @ivan774 is right that the grinder matters way more than people give it credit for. A cheap grinder even on coarse gives you uneven chunks that still overextract and give you mud. I'd rather fix my technique first before blaming the grind size.
