Rant: People keep washing their pour over filters like they're reusable
I was at a friend's place in Tulsa last week and watched them rinse their paper V60 filter under the tap before brewing. They thought it was a cleaning step. That filter is meant to be pre-wet with hot water, not scrubbed like a dish rag. It fell apart halfway through the pour, coffee grounds everywhere, and they blamed the grinder. I've been doing pour overs for about 4 years now, and this is the third time I've seen someone make this exact mistake. It matters because the whole point of a paper filter is that it's disposable and designed to hold shape during extraction. If you mess with the paper before brewing, you alter the flow rate and get a muddy cup. How did you all learn about filter prep, or did anyone else start with this same wrong idea too?
