Overpriced variant covers got me twice last weekend at Dallas Fan Expo

I picked up a signed variant for $45 at Dallas Fan Expo last Saturday, then saw the same book in the dollar bin two booths over. The signature was just a print, not even real ink, and the seller dodged my refund request. Anyone else get burned by the variant hype lately or am I the only chump?
