The time a kid at my LCS lectured me about silver age books

I was grabbing a stack of X-Men at my local shop in Omaha and this 14 year old starts telling me how my copies were probably reprints because the corners were sharp. I laughed until he pulled out a CGC guide and proved that most 70s books got clipped at the register. Now I actually check the indicia before I buy anything older than 1980. Anyone else get schooled by a kid half their age?

Did you try trading with the kid or just let him feel smart?

Oh, I'd definitely try trading first. Let him feel like he's getting something good out of it. Usually works better than just feeding their ego for free.
