Thought digital comics would kill my love of the floppy, turns out I was dead wrong
I swore off single issues about 3 years ago. Went full trade paperback and digital only. Felt smart. My shelf looked clean. Then last October I walked into a shop in Portland and the guy behind the counter handed me a copy of a small press book I had never heard of. It was a floppy. Staples and all. I read it on the bus home and something clicked. The letters page at the back had a real address. I wrote in. They printed my letter 2 issues later. That never happens with a digital copy. Now I am back to pulling about 8 titles a month and my shelf is a mess again. Curious if anyone else went digital only and then came back to singles.
The letters page thing is cool and all but you can email creators too and honestly they reply more than you'd think. Floppies are a mess of plastic bags and boards and storage boxes that eat up your room while digital stays on a device you already own. Sounds like you just miss the ritual of walking into a shop, which is fine, but don't kid yourself that it's about the paper.
