A supervisor's comment about my fin kicks changed my whole dive setup
Last month I was doing a salvage job off the coast of Galveston and my supervisor pulled me aside after a morning dive. He said my frog kicks were stirring up too much silt near the line, making it hard for the tender to see my position. I had been doing the standard flutter kick for 6 years and never thought twice about it. He showed me a slower glide technique where you keep your knees bent and ankles loose, took about 3 dives to get it right. Now I use it on every low-vis job, especially around shipwrecks with tight spaces. Anyone else get similar feedback on their kick style from an older diver, and did it stick with you long term?
That old school diver advice hits different when it saves you from a headache. Had a similar thing happen years ago, a guy showed me how to keep my fins low and slow and I fought it for a week before it clicked. Now I cant even go back to the fast kick, it feels wrong in tight spots.
