Can we talk about how I used to plan every dive around the tide chart and now I barely look at it?
For my first 3 years working the Gulf out of Bayou La Batre I would print the tide tables and mark every slack window in red ink like it was gospel. Then a diver named Pete watched me turn down a job because the current looked bad on paper and said the surface read means nothing once you are 60 feet down on a pile. Now I drop a weighted line first thing, watch which way it lays, and that tells me more in 30 seconds than a chart ever did. Same goes for trusting the live boat operator over any schedule. Curious if you guys still plan off tables or just read the water when you get there?
