My umbilical snagged on the rig leg at 90 feet and I had to think fast

I was doing a inspection dive off a platform near Galveston when my umbilical caught on a barnacle covered leg and my tender couldn't feel it from the surface. I stopped, backed up real slow, and worked it loose by hand instead of yanking, which would have torn the hose. Has anyone else had a tender who couldn't read the line tension on a job like that?

Had a tender once who was too busy watching his phone to feel me jerk the line twice, so I just sat on the bottom for five minutes until he finally looked up. Funny thing is he turned out to be one of the best I ever worked with after that, guess the scare set him straight. Sometimes a stuck hose is just the ocean's way of telling you to slow down and check your own gear.
