Last Tuesday I was at the front desk wrapping up a laptop and a walk-in guy started chatting with me about a machine that kept forgetting the date. He goes, "oh that's just the little suicide pill on the board," and I almost choked on my coffee. Took me a sec to figure out he meant the CMOS battery, and honestly it's the best nickname I've heard in 9 years of doing this. Now I catch myself wanting to use it with customers, but I know that would go over real bad. What weird tech nicknames have you all picked up from old timers or random walk-ins?
