Paid $120 for a cable tester that actually labels runs

Got tired of tone generators that only beep at you. Picked up a Klein Scout Pro 3 for $120 last month and it prints the cable ID right on the remote. Saved me 4 hours on a 48-port patch job yesterday because I didn't have to label anything by hand. Has anyone found a cheaper one that does the same thing without the brand markup?

Man that line about "tone generators that only beep at you" hits home. I spent way too many hours on a 60 port run last year with a basic toner and a sharpie, labeling everything by hand because the tone kept getting lost in the bundle. Your Klein Scout Pro 3 sounds like a lifesaver honestly, four hours saved on a single job is no joke. I haven't found a cheaper model that prints IDs like that, most of the budget ones just give you a number on a screen and you still have to write it down. It sucks that the good stuff costs so much but sometimes you just have to pay up to avoid the headache.

Four hours saved on a single job" is the kind of math that makes you realize you should have bought the nice tool two years ago. I've been in that boat where the cheap toner saves you fifty bucks but costs you a whole Saturday of frustration. At some point you just gotta accept that paying upfront hurts less than the headache of doing it the hard way.

Totally random but this reminds me of the time I spent an afternoon trying to find a single wire in a trough with a toner that kept dying. Finally gave up and just pulled a new one, faster than fighting with that thing.
