Warning: I lost a full day's pay chasing a phantom network issue with a $40 cable tester I didn't need.

I spent hours re-terminating drops and swapping switches before I finally plugged the PC directly into the wall and realized the customer's own antivirus had quarantined the network driver, which is something you've probably seen before, right?

Man, that reminds me of the time I spent a whole afternoon on a "printer offline" ticket. I was checking IPs, reinstalling drivers, the whole deal. Turns out the user had just unplugged it to charge their phone and never plugged it back in. The simplest fix always seems to hide after you've tried everything complicated.

Did they at least have the decency to look a little guilty when you told them?

Spent a week debugging a flickering monitor once.
