My finisher trowel handle split right in the middle of a garage pour

Thursday afternoon in Tulsa, I'm bull floating a 400 square foot slab and the wooden handle on my trusty trowel just snaps clean off, no warning at all. I had to finish the whole job with a spare 48 inch groover I had in the truck, and man, has anyone else had a favorite tool give out at the worst possible moment?

Was the handle dry rotted from age, or did it just give out on a fresh one?
