PSA: the old finisher who told me to skip the float and go straight to the trowel was dead wrong
Six months ago on a slab job out in Fresno, a guy with 30 years in told me floating was a waste of time on a small pour and to just get the power trowel on it fast. I listened, and that slab came out with a wavy edge and a couple of dips you could feel with your hand. Cost me $300 to come back and grind the high spots, and the homeowner still wasn't happy. So how many of you actually float everything no matter the size, or is there a spot where skipping it really works?
