Rented power trowel threw a blade on day 2 of a big garage pour

Last Thursday I was finishing a 4,000 square foot garage slab in Toledo with a rented power trowel. The machine started vibrating hard around 11 AM, then a blade snapped clean off and shot across the wet concrete. It gouged a 6 foot line before I could kill the motor. I had to hand trowel the damaged section for two hours while the rest started setting up uneven. The rental place blamed me for not checking blade wear, even though I asked for a fresh set when I picked it up. Has anyone else had a rental company refuse to cover damage from their own bad blades?
