Slab poured last Tuesday developed spider cracks overnight - did I panic too fast on the fix?
I hit it with a surface sealer right away but my buddy says I should have just left it alone and monitored it. Anyone dealt with the same and regretted sealing or not sealing too soon?

Buddy of mine sealed his garage slab the same day he saw cracks and ended up trapping moisture under the coating, which made the cracking way worse over the next month. He had to grind the whole thing off and start over, cost him a weekend he really didn't have. Waiting a couple weeks to see if the cracks stabilize is usually the smarter move.

See the same thing with drywall patches all the time. People slather mud on before the first coat is even dry and end up with a bubbled mess that takes twice as long to sand flat. Rushing almost always costs you more time in the long run.

Yeah the whole "trapping moisture" thing is exactly what happens when people act too fast. That buddy of yours learned the hard way. Its like when you spill something on a carpet and panic-scrub it immediately instead of blotting it first - you just push the stain deeper. I've seen the same pattern with painting too. People slap a coat on wet wood and wonder why it peels off in sheets a month later. Concrete cracks need to breathe and settle before you seal them, same way a fresh tattoo needs air before you lotion it up. Patience is almost always cheaper than fixing a rushed job.
