Switched from hand floats to a power trowel on big pads, wish I did it years ago
Used to burn 3 hours hand floating a 2,000 sq ft warehouse slab in Tulsa, then finally rented a ride-on last week and finished in 45 minutes flat. Has anyone else made the jump and gone back to hand floats for small jobs only?

45 minutes? That's insane. I've done that same size pad with a hand float and my arms felt like noodles for two days after. You're telling me you ran a machine over it and just walked away? I gotta ask, did it take you a while to get the hang of the ride-on, or was it pretty much point and go? I'm picturing you just cruising around like it's a lawnmower while the rest of us are on our knees. I might have to look into renting one for my next big pour.

Rode one a few years back on a buddy's crew, it's got a learning curve but not brutal. The first pass is weird cause the machine kind of does its own thing, but after a couple minutes you get the feel. Rent it for sure, just watch the edges cause you still gotta hand finish those.
