Told a GC his control joints were too late, and he pulled my crew off the job that afternoon
So last month I was finishing a 4,000 sq ft slab out in Mesa for a custom shop build. Poured at 6am, temps hit 98 by noon. Around 2pm the GC walks up and says they're not cutting joints till tomorrow morning. I told him flat out that slab is gonna crack, we need to get on it within 12 hours. He said his guy has been doing it 20 years and knows better.
Next morning I show up, and there it is. Two good size cracks running right through the middle of the bay. GC looks at me like I did something. I said I told you yesterday. He got real quiet, then called my boss and said my crew wasn't needed on the rest of the job.
Boss was cool about it, said that GC has burned three other subs this year doing the same thing. But it got me thinking. Do you guys speak up when you know the mix and the weather mean trouble, even if it costs you the job? Or do you just pour what they tell you and let them eat the repair? I'm not sure I'd do it different but I want to hear how you all handle it.
