Warning: I was floating my slabs way too early for 6 years until a guy on a pour in Phoenix said something
I always hit the bull float the second the bleed water sheened up because that is how the older guys on my first crew did it. Last week on a 2,400 sq ft driveway pour in Phoenix, an old finisher watched me and said flat out, "you are sealing the water in, not pushing it out." He made me wait almost 40 minutes until the sheen was gone and the thumbprint test held, and the finish came out way tighter with no delamination at the edges. I looked back at two jobs from last summer that got hairline crazing and I bet this was the reason. How do you all judge the right moment without dragging the schedule out too far?
