Vent: got roasted on a livestream for saying 'do your own research' and it actually fixed my whole approach
About 5 weeks ago I was on this small livestream with maybe 40 viewers, talking about the whole chemtrail thing, and I kept saying "do your own research" like it was a mic drop. One guy in chat named Dave, some retired air traffic controller from Ohio, typed out a reply that wrecked me. He said that phrase is worthless because it just dumps people into a search engine with no starting point, and that's how folks end up on garbage sites. I sat there kind of stunned honestly. So I started posting actual sources instead, like the specific FAA report number, or the exact page in a NOAA doc, and pointing out which parts people can check themselves. My threads on the conspiracy boards went from 3 replies to like 60 because people could actually follow the trail. The weird part is the arguments got way better too, less name calling, more back and forth. Has anyone else had a random commenter completely change how they argue a topic? Curious if that source list trick works for other subjects or if it's just this one.
