Pouring a slab in the rain because my weather app lied
I was in charge of a 2,000 sq ft slab pour in Fresno and my weather app said 0% chance of rain all afternoon. Halfway through the finish, the sky opened up and we had puddles forming on the surface. I made the call to cut control joints early and cover it with plastic while my foreman argued we should just keep troweling through it. We ended up with some cosmetic scaling on one corner but the structural inspector passed it. Has anyone else had to make that split second call between covering a pour and finishing it out?
Reminds me of a job I did near Bakersfield years back, we got caught in a freak storm while pouring a driveway. We only had half the concrete down and the truck was already backed up to the forms. Boss told us to keep going and we ended up with a surface that looked like a golf course. Client was not happy but it passed inspection so whatever. The whole thing cost us a weekend of grinding and patching. Weather apps are worthless out here in the valley, the radar just does not pick up those quick pop up cells. You made the right call covering it because fighting wet concrete never works out how you want.
