Subcontractor schedules are a myth, I stopped waiting on them
Last fall on a job in Columbus, I had three subs tell me they'd be on site Tuesday morning. Tuesday came and went, not a single truck showed up until Thursday afternoon. I used to build my whole day around those promised arrivals, but after that I started calling every morning at 6 AM to confirm, and if they can't give me a straight answer I move my crew to another section. Has anyone else just stopped trusting the schedule sheet and switched to daily phone tag?

Treating that schedule like a wish list is the same way I look at weather apps, just a guess until you see it outside.

You ever try putting a late penalty in the contract? I started doing that after a similar Columbus mess, and it's the only thing that actually got their attention. I still do the 6 AM call, but now I also ask for a photo of their truck at the gate by 7 or they're not on the clock that day. Most of them hate it at first, but the ones who are serious about the work don't mind proving they're on site. The schedule sheet is still useful, I just treat it like a wish list instead of a promise now.
