Notice the difference in how subs talk to me now that I stopped wearing my contractor polo
I've been doing kitchen remodels in Austin for about 4 years and always wore a branded polo to job sites. Last month I grabbed an old stained hoodie by accident and suddenly the drywall crew started treating me totally different. They asked if I was the homeowner, used simpler words, and even questioned my measurements twice. Then the electrician showed up and the same guys snapped to attention, calling him sir and everything. I went back to the polo this week and it flipped right back to normal. It got me thinking about how much of contractor chat is really about perceived status instead of actual skill. Has anyone else noticed their words carry more weight when you dress a certain way on site?
