Took a 3-day drywall course in Denver, flipped my whole opinion on taping knives
I used to think any 6 inch knife was fine and that finishing was all wrist work. Then a GC I sub for made me sit in on this 3 day class at a local supply house, and the instructor showed me how the flex of a 12 inch stainless blade changes how mud rides the seam. First day I fought it hard, but by day 3 I wove two corners without a single bubble through the top coat. Has anyone else had a trade skill that clicked only after someone forced you into formal training?

Been doing drywall for 8 years now and honestly I think the 3 day class just gave you a new tool to fight with, not some magic secret. The flex thing matters but only if you already got the basics down, and most guys I know who skipped classes still lay mud fine because they learned by doing hundreds of hours of it. Formal training can help, sure, but it ain't the only way and sometimes it makes people overthink stuff that should be muscle memory by now. You wove two corners in three days, that's cool, but I've seen weekend warriors do the same after watching YouTube for a week.
