Bought a $400 hot comb and it ruined my client's hair

Splurged on that fancy ceramic tourmaline comb everyone raves about. First use left scorch marks and a chemical smell. Now my client needs a trim and I'm back to my old $30 model. Anyone else have a tool that was hyped but flopped bad?

Wait was it actually hot enough to leave scorch marks?

So did the actual glass get hot enough to leave brown marks on the cookies? Or was it more like the air temp inside was way off and the glass just got super hot in spots? I'm trying to picture if the scorch marks were literally on the baking sheet or if the cookies themselves had burnt bottoms. That 425F reading seems crazy high for something set at 350, but I wonder if the heat was uneven too, like one side of the oven was way hotter. Like, did the whole glass surface get that hot or just near the heating element?

Picked up a cheap infrared thermometer at the hardware store after mine cooked two batches of cookies black on the bottom. Pointed it at the glass and it read 425F when the dial said 350F. Replaced the thermostat and it fixed everything, no more scorch marks.
