Rant: My favorite shears just gave out mid-haircut
It happened yesterday with a regular client in my chair. I was doing a long layer cut and the pivot screw snapped clean through. I had to grab my backup pair, a cheap set I keep in the drawer, to finish the job. The whole thing felt clunky and threw off my rhythm for the rest of the cut. Has anyone had a good pair of shears repaired, or is it usually a lost cause?

My barber told me last month that his main shears are on their third repair in five years. It feels like everything is built to break now, from kitchen gadgets to car parts. That moment when your trusted tool fails is the worst kind of surprise. I'd definitely look into a repair shop before giving up on a good pair.

Yeah, find a good sharpening service, they can work miracles on old tools.

Ugh, I read this article about how companies actually design products with "planned obsolescence" now. They make things to fail after a certain number of uses so you have to buy new ones. It's especially bad with electronics and appliances. Really makes you want to hold onto anything that's built well.
