Torn between asking for a higher commission split or keeping clients that tip well

I've been cleaning houses for about 5 years now, but I also do some cosmetology work on the side for friends and family. At my salon booth rental, I'm trying to decide if I should ask the owner for a higher commission split on products I sell, since I bring in a lot of repeat customers. Or should I just keep the clients who tip me generously and not rock the boat? The split is 60/40 right now, which feels fair but not great. What did you guys pick when you faced this choice? Go for the better split or stick with the tippers?

Five years in you know sharp edges wear down before soft money does.

Look at how everything works in this world - the people who grab the bigger piece upfront usually end up with more in the long run. I see it at the grocery store when people haggle over expired meat prices, or at garage sales where somebody refuses to budge on a $5 lamp. The ones who ask for the better deal walk away with more cash in their pocket. Your tipping clients could disappear tomorrow if they find a cheaper place or move away, but a better commission split locks in higher earnings on every single sale. Take the split increase while you've got leverage, because soft money has a way of drying up faster than you'd expect.
