My mentor in Tulsa said he never trusts a load chart on a windy day, my old foreman said that's overkill
Now I'm stuck debating whether to trust the chart's math or the gut feeling my mentor drilled into me, so how do you all decide when the wind starts picking up?
Tbh nobody ever brings up the difference between steady wind and gusts. A chart assumes wind is a nice even push, but real wind comes in slaps and lulls. You can be sitting at what feels like 15 mph and then a gust doubles that for two seconds, and two seconds is all it takes to tip you. Your mentor probably got burned by a gust, not by a steady breeze. So the chart math isn't wrong, it just can't see the gusts. Watch the flags and the tree tops, not just the number on the weather app.
