Wasted $80 on a 'premium' plot planning software that was just a clunky spreadsheet

I thought buying that story architect app would save me hours, but it just made organizing my scenes more confusing than using index cards. Has anyone else tried those fancy narrative tools and felt ripped off?

...and honestly I don't get why everyone acts like you need some fancy tool to write a story lol. Index cards work fine, a notebook works fine, even just a Word doc works fine. People act like there's this magic software that'll fix all their plotting problems but really it's just gonna give you more stuff to click through when you should be writing. I mean yeah it's $80 which sucks but you're not gonna lose your whole novel over it.

What part of the planning process were you hoping it would replace exactly? Was it more the timeline stuff or the character arc tracking that got messy?
