Finally locked down my home network after my $50 router got owned
About three weeks ago I noticed my internet was crawling during the day, like 2 Mbps on a good day. I figured it was my ISP messing around but then I checked my router logs and saw a bunch of IPs from some place in Moldova connected to my admin panel. Turns out I never changed the default password on that old Netgear I bought off Facebook Marketplace. It's just embarrassing. I factory reset everything, set up a proper firewall, and changed every password I had to something long and random. I also finally turned off WPS which I guess is a common way people get in. Has anyone else had a router get compromised like that and what did you check after? I'm still paranoid there's something buried in there.

The WPS thing is crazy, my neighbor's kid accidentally factory reset their router because they kept hitting that button thinking it was the wifi boost.

Stop fussing over nothing, default passwords haven't caused issues for most people.

Dumb luck mine got hit before I had anything important on it, just took down my smart bulb network for a week. Always the simple stuff like default passwords that gets you.
