Had my email hacked after clicking a fake FedEx link last Thursday
I got a text at work saying a package was waiting for me. Clicked the FedEx link without thinking, put in my password, and boom my email was gone in 30 minutes. The hacker sent a fake invoice to 40 of my contacts asking for $200 each. Took me 4 hours on the phone with customer support to get everything back. My neighbor laughed and said that was an old trick, but I had never heard of it before. Has anyone else had one of those fake shipping texts catch them off guard?

That text thing got me too about a year ago. I was waiting for a package from my brother and the timing was PERFECT. Clicked the link and put in my info without even thinking twice. Then about an hour later my phone started blowing up with texts from my contacts asking if I was trying to sell them some bogus electronic stuff. The worst part was my email got taken over and they changed the password AND the recovery info so I was locked out for almost two days. FedEx should honestly put a warning on their website about those texts because they look SO real with the tracking numbers and everything. My sister still makes fun of me for falling for it even though she clicked the same thing a month later.

Ugh, that timing thing is the real killer. I fell for almost the exact same scenario last spring, waiting on a medical supply delivery that was already late. When the text came through with the right carrier and a tracking number that even matched the city it was supposedly at, I just did the whole "oh finally" thing and clicked without a second thought. The chaos that followed with my contacts getting spammed was so embarrassing, especially when my mom called me panicking because she thought I was hacked. It really does feel like these scammers have way too much info already.
