My buddy told me to skip the password manager and just use a notebook

Honestly, he said writing them down in a physical book was safer from hackers, so I tried it for about six months. Ngl, I lost the notebook during a move and got locked out of my main email for a week. Has anyone else had a friend give them security advice that totally backfired?

My cousin was the same way, always going on about how a paper list was the only safe method. I listened to him for my bank logins. A pipe burst in my home office last winter, and my "secure" notebook turned into a soggy, unreadable pulp. It took months of calls with the bank to sort it all out. Sometimes the old ways are just not built for modern life.

But that's why you keep the paper list in a safe place, @vera195. A fireproof box costs twenty bucks and solves the water problem. Digital stuff gets hacked or you forget the master password, then you're really stuck. Banks actually tell you to write down passwords if you can't remember them. Your cousin had a point, you just needed to protect the list better.
