Sim swap attack out of nowhere, how do I even prep for that?
Honestly, I got hit with a sim swap last Tuesday while I was at a coffee shop in Austin. My phone just went dead for calls and texts, but I still had wifi so I saw my bank app lock me out. Someone called my carrier, ported my number, and used the SMS codes to reset my password. I caught it in about 40 minutes because my email alerts went off, but they still drained $600 from my savings before I froze everything. My carrier gave me a temp PIN, but that feels like a band-aid. Has anyone else dealt with this and actually secured their accounts against it for real?

Man, that's brutal. 40 minutes and they still got $600 out, that's wild. Every bank and carrier needs to move way faster than that, and it makes me wonder how much worse it could've been if you weren't on top of it. I'd switch off SMS codes for anything that matters and get an authenticator app going, that's the only real wall I've seen work.
