Took me 5 years to realize my "dad joke" was actually a mom joke
I've been telling this one at every family BBQ since 2019. "Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field." Everyone always groaned and I thought I was killing it. Then my 9 year old niece looks at me last Sunday and says "Uncle, that's not even a dad joke. Dads don't win awards for standing around." I was floored. Been posting here for years thinking I was a top tier pun master. Now I'm questioning every joke I know. Anyone else ever get hit with that realization that their whole routine was off base?
That niece just handed you a full audit of your comedy career for free. My go to joke for YEARS was the one about the duck buying lip balm, turns out that's not a dad joke either, it's just a weird duck with chapped lips. We're all out here performing on the wrong stage, buddy.
