Had a cashier tell me something that still bugs me months later
Bought a snack at a gas station in Tulsa and the guy behind the register said, "Thanks for letting them track your card." He was joking, but it hit me how we just hand over data without thinking. Anyone else get weirded out by stuff like that?

@emmam89 my buddy bought a prepaid card with cash at a 7-Eleven and they still asked for his phone number.

Wait, wouldn't stores still track the prepaid card if you buy it with a credit card? I feel like that defeats the purpose if they can link the prepaid card purchase back to you through your bank. Best to grab one with cash if you really want to stay off their radar.

A prepaid card from the grocery store works fine for gas station snacks. Load twenty bucks on it, use it up, toss it. No way for anyone to track your habits or sell your info to some data broker. Been doing this for years, keeps the weird feeling away.
