My dentist in Boise sold my x-rays to a lab and nobody asked me first

I was in for a cleaning last month and the hygienist mentioned their new digital x-ray machine sends images straight to a lab in Ohio for review. I asked if I could opt out and she looked at me like I asked to pay in pennies. Turns out the paperwork I signed 3 years ago had a line in it about sharing records with "partner providers" and that was my only say in the whole thing. My teeth, my x-rays, and some lab 2,000 miles away has them now. Is there any way to find out everywhere my medical records have actually gone, or is that just gone for good once you sign at the front desk?
