My gym's new app wants access to my health data and I'm not having it

My gym just launched an app that needs my heart rate and sleep patterns to work. They claim it helps with fitness plans, but it's really a data grab. This info is private and should stay with me, not some company. Letting businesses collect and sell health data without asking is wrong. People must have the final say on who gets their personal details. I refused to use the app and wrote a complaint. If we keep giving data away, we lose all control.

Share your health data for a custom plan that actually works (it's not always bad).

Yeah, the whole "custom plan" thing they push. It reminds me of when my buddy @drew_hart4 got a smart scale that shared everything online. He found out later the company was selling the trends to some wellness blog. His own weight loss chart ended up in an ad. That's just creepy.

Apps asking for health data is pretty common these days. @mary_hunt67 has a point about getting custom plans from it. Maybe we worry too much about every little data request.

Step count sharing helped me, but I get why people worry.
