Spent 2 hours trying to spot a deepfake of my own mayor

I ran into this problem last week where a video of our mayor from Austin was going around saying he was closing all the parks. Took me way too long to figure out it was fake because the lip movements were nearly perfect. I finally zoomed in on the teeth and noticed they had no individual detail, just a weird blur. Has anyone else had to waste a whole afternoon debunking something that looked too real at first?

Used to think this whole deepfake panic was overblown until I spent a whole Saturday looking at the mayor's teeth in a video. That teeth blurring trick is the only reason I caught it, and now I'm triple-checking anything that makes me angry or scared. It's wild how close we are to not being able to tell at all, which is honestly terrifying when you stop and sit with it for a minute.
