Why does nobody talk about paying $40 for a deepfake detection tool that was totally useless
I bought this software called VeriFace last month after seeing an ad about how it can spot deepfakes in videos. It was $40 and promised to analyze any clip and tell you if it was real or fake. I tried it on a couple obvious things like that Tom Cruise deepfake on TikTok and it flagged one as real and one as fake but got them backwards. Then I ran it on a news clip from my local station and it said it was 80% fake. That news clip was just a regular weather report. So either my local weather guy is a deepfake or this software is garbage. I'm pretty sure I just burned $40 on something that's basically a random number generator. Has anyone else tried one of these tools and found one that actually works?

Is it just me or does this feel like the same pattern as all those "miracle" products from infomercials back in the day? You pay $40 hoping for something legit and instead you get a fancy looking UI that's basically just guessing (like the ShamWow of AI tools).

The $40 price point is the real giveaway, that sweet spot where it's cheap enough to seem like a steal but expensive enough to feel like you put in effort. It's basically the same business model as those "get ripped quick" ab belts that just vibrate your fat.
