Talked to a guy in Medellin about his 'home base' setup

I was at a cafe here yesterday and this guy from Germany said he rents the same apartment in Lisbon for six months every year. He said it's not about the money, but having a place where his mail goes and his dentist is. I always thought being a nomad meant constant movement, but he called it his 'anchor point'. It made me wonder if I'm burning myself out trying to be in a new city every month. Does anyone else keep a semi-permanent spot like that, or is it just me?

That "anchor point" idea really hits home. I used to push myself to switch countries every few weeks, thinking that was the only real way to do it. But having a spot where your mail piles up and you know which coffee shop makes it right? That's not giving up, it's just being smart. I burned out hard last year trying to keep up that pace. Maybe having a home base is what lets you actually enjoy the travel part.

That whole idea just sounds like settling with extra steps. The whole point of this life is to break free from routines and fixed addresses. Having a "home base" is just a safety net that keeps you from really committing to the experience. You start to live for those six months in Lisbon instead of being fully present wherever you actually are. It turns adventure into a series of vacations from your real life, which isn't real freedom at all.

The mail thing is real though, I had a package sit in customs for months once because I had no fixed address.
